My reflections for English

The English lessons in Term 1 were excellent and helpful. We did blog entries, grammars editing, newspaper reading and letter writing. We even have a common Facebook account where teachers and students can exchange thoughts and view freely.

The blog entries we did were exciting. This is the first time that I have my own blog and I get to read other bloggers' view. I can learn from my friends' blog and share my thoughts. Through these blog entries, I get to know my friends better.

Grammars editing were fun as well. I have learned to find and correct grammar mistakes from the passages. This improves my English which is essential for most of the subjects.

The phrase book homework that we need to do weekly requires us to read through the newspapers and find words that we do not know. We have to look up the meaning for the words in the dictionary and learn them properly. It helps me to improve my vocabulary and know what is happening in Singapore and around the world.

For letter writing, I learned to write a friendly letter to my friend. The first time I heard about writing letters, I was grumpy as I do not like writing letters. Now I love writing letters and write emails to my cousins.

I am always weak in my English language. With the  learning experience and exposure I get from school, I am confident that I will improve over time.

To : The Kind Samaritan

17th February 2014

Dear Sir,

I am Grace Wong who works as a timekeeper with the Singapore School Transport Association, was in charge of keeping track of bus arrival and departure times for foreign workers to and from their dorms.

On 8 December 2013, at around 9pm, I told Mr Sakthivel Kumaravelu, 33, an Indian national construction worker, to get off a shuttle bus as it was already full. He staggered off the bus and moments after the bus moved off and made a left turn into Race Course Road, he was found pinned under one of its rear wheels.

As a result, a sea of onlookers near the bus surged forward at the crushing sound of the accident. Within minutes, they began pelting stones, beer bottles and sticks at the vehicle's windscreen.

I had suffered a bruised left eye, a fractured right hand, and cuts on my forehead, hands and legs. It could be worst if you had not pulled me out of the situation.

If it wasn't for you, I would be killed by the rioters who are pelting rocks and throwing glass shards at me.

I would like to thank you for saving me from the riots.

Yours sincerely,

Grace Wong

Movie Review

Name: _Lim Bo Yu, Jeff__    (  17  )     Class: _1E1_________      Date: __5/2/14_________

Title of movie: 2012

Describe the most exciting/memorable part of the movie. Why do you like it?

The most exciting part of the movie was when the actor, Jackson, picked up his family from his house to the airport. On the way to the airport, the buildings were falling apart, the highways and the roads were breaking apart and people were running and screaming for their lives.

If you could rewrite one part of the movie, which part would it be and why? How would you like to rewrite it?

The actor, Gordon was crushed to death by the machine when he was trying to reach the arch.  He should not die as he helped the family to fly the plane to reach China to board the arch. I would rewrite the story that he was rescued from being crushed by machine.

List 3 new words that you have picked up from watching the movie.

Knots – it refers to the speed of the plane.

Yellow Stone – it refers to a mountain in a country side

Conspiracy shelf – a place where they put all the books in different genres.

Draft 3: Introduction

Overcoming Struggles

When I was in Primary 6, I was under lots of stress. Since I did not do well in Primary 5, I was worried that I would not do well for my PSLE. I studied very hard since beginning of the year but things did not turn well as expected.  I was disappointed and discouraged by my mid year results.

Luckily, my parents, teachers and friends encouraged me and cheered me on. Once again, I put in greater effort and hard work.  I managed to pass my PSLE. This is the best things that happened to me.

The Story of a toy robot

"Come on, you can do it! Knock him down!". A boy shouted. Another boy shouted the same thing back. The two friends are playing with their toy robots, making them fight with each other. "Oh, stop it! my arms and legs hurts" and "not my head again!". I yelled and cried in pain but the boys just would not stop. Yes, you guessed it! I am a toy robot.

My name is MFB3-21. I am blue, red and yellow in color with strong arms and legs. I look so cool and I am proud of myself. I was manufactured in USA, shipped to Singapore and I was placed together with the other robots in a toy shop. One afternoon, while most of the robots were taking a nap, the door flung opened with a big bang and a crowd of children rushed in and gathered around the shelf where the robots were displayed. I was chosen by a short boy, whose name is James. From their conversion, I knew he loves robots and I was excited to meet the other robots that he owned.

When I was brought home, all the other robots greeted me happily. I felt so excited and greeted them back and I thought I could live happily ever after. My happiness faded when James packed me into his bag and brought me to his friend's house. Oh no! They used their toy robots to battle. As I was new and strong, I had won a few battles and James boast a lot about me. One day, I lost in a battle and broke my arm.

When he reached home, he cried that I broke my arm said that I could not be used anymore.  His mother told him to ask his older cousin if I could be fixed  There, I was fixed by his cousin and was able to move my arm again but James did not want me back. I felt so angry and sad.

Soon after, I felt happy again. Do you want to know why? That's because his older cousin, Ken takes good care of me!

So that's the story of a toy robot!
